WESTMINSTER, Colo. (March 6, 2008) – Lake Arbor Automotive and Truck announced today that they will top Alpine Waste & Disposal’s bid for the authenticated baseball that Barry Bonds hit in Denver for the 762nd home run of his career.
Lake Arbor Auto is offering $10,000 for the home run ball that Bonds hit Sept. 5, 2007 at Coors Field and that now stands as the all-time career home run record.
Lake Arbor Auto has served customers in Westminster and the Denver area for more than 15 years, and owner Dana TePoel said he wants the historic baseball to stay in Denver.
“I recognize that there is some controversy surrounding the home run record,” said TePoel, “but there is no denying Barry Bonds’ ability to give the ball a good ride. In that way, we have a lot in common. Lake Arbor Auto makes sure its customers have a good ride.”
Lake Arbor Auto’s offer of $10,000 tops Alpine’s bid of $7,170. It is believed that the fan who caught the home run ball is likely a Denver resident, but that person has not stepped forward.
In keeping with Alpine’s effort to get a charity involved in the transaction, TePoel said he will ask the seller to set aside 11% of the proceeds to the Arvada Center’s ArtSmart program for children.
The owner of the Bonds home run ball should contact Steve Caulk of ProConnect Public Relations, representing Lake Arbor Auto, at 303-410-4971 to set up the exchange.
