Lake Arbor Auto spearheads donation

Teen mom at Hope House receives vehicle for Mother’s Day

WESTMINSTER, Colo. (May 3, 2018) – Lake Arbor Automotive & Truck will celebrate Mother’s Day again this year by contributing to the donation of a dependable automobile to a teen mother at Hope House of Colorado.

In collaboration with Good Neighbor Garage in Golden, Lake Arbor Auto presented a 2007 Hyundai Sonata to the teen mom in a ceremony at Lake Arbor Auto today. It was the second straight year that Lake Arbor Auto made a car available to a Hope House resident.

“We believe that a lack of dependable transportation is one of the big hurdles for a young woman in this situation,” said Dana TePoel, owner of Lake Arbor Auto. “Her self-sufficiency is going to depend upon her ability to get to school, get to job interviews, and get to her job. She also needs a way to drop her child at daycare.”

Hope House in Arvada offers metro-Denver’s only residential and community programs for teen moms, where they can engage in free self-sufficiency programs including high school equivalency certifications, college-and-career support programs, and more.
The Hyundai Sonata, with 170,000 miles, required $964 worth of repair and maintenance (including brakes and rotors) before Lake Arbor was able to present the vehicle to the teen mom. The work was donated by Lake Arbor Auto technician Myron Novacek. Lake Arbor Auto also plans to provide a year’s worth of preventative maintenance service at no charge.

“The mission of the Good Neighbor Garage program is to take in vehicle donations from the public and repurpose them to women in need,” said the program’s CEO, Dan Georgopulos. “We were pleased to work with Lake Arbor Auto on this special Mother’s Day gift, and we believe the auto will be effective in helping this young woman gain her independence.”

Lake Arbor Auto has an ongoing arrangement with Hope House in which the shop provides a budgeted amount of free repair and maintenance annually for autos that are owned by the Hope House residents.

“We appreciate the involvement by Lake Arbor Auto and Good Neighbor Garage,” said Lisa Steven, founder and executive director of Hope House of Colorado. “We could not do what we do at Hope House without the generosity of the community, and Lake Arbor Auto and Good Neighbor Garage are setting a great example of how to make a real difference!”
