Westminster shop among ‘best places to work’

Prominent business journal officially honors Lake Arbor Automotive & Truck

WESTMINSTER, Colo. (March 31, 2023) – Lake Arbor Automotive & Truck has received distinction as an honoree in the annual “Best Place to Work” competition sponsored by the Denver Business Journal. The Westminster-based auto repair and maintenance shop will learn in a ceremony at the end of April whether the DBJ will upgrade the distinction to one of the year’s top awards.

The Best Place to Work award is determined by a confidential survey of employees, with input from a panel of judges at the Denver Business Journal.

It is the second award of its kind bestowed upon Lake Arbor Auto, which was named by Examiner.com on its list of “Best Local Companies to Work For” in 2012. In that article, the author described LAA as “a company that goes the extra mile, and then some, for its customers and employees.”

The recent DBJ award also comes on the heels of an innovative workplace program initiated in recent months at Lake Arbor Auto, called “Way to Work.” The program allows workers to propose customized work schedules, allowing the employees to resolve work-life conflicts.

“Especially in this current economic climate, with job openings at a near record high, it pays dividends for an employer to make the workplace as attractive as possible,” TePoel said. “A worker-friendly environment encourages people to hire on, produce at an optimal rate, return the next day, and keep coming back.”

The Best Place to Work award is separate from the annual “Best of the Best” award, which Lake Arbor Auto has won 11 of the last 12 years, and for which Lake Arbor Auto is in the running again this year.

Appropriately, all this positive news at Lake Arbor Auto comes during the shop’s 30th year in business.

“In the entire time we have been repairing and maintaining vehicles for the public, I can’t think of a period that matches this year in terms of the pride that we are experiencing,” said TePoel. “All the years of hard work and ‘doing the right thing’ are really coming together into a shape that matches the dreams I had for this company 30 years ago.”

Much of Lake Arbor Auto’s success as an employer and as a place of business is credited to the philosophy that begins with the slogan, “We do the Right Thing for You Every Time.” But TePoel noted that a great workplace culture begins with the employees who are willing to embrace and nurture it. “We would not be where we are without the collection of employees who show up every day, determined to Do the Right Thing,” TePoel said.
