Bike to Work Day marks debut of innovative feature to benefit health, environment;
36 Commuting Solutions group recognizes value, awards grant
WESTMINSTER, Colo. (June 27, 2012) – Lake Arbor Automotive & Truck, the auto repair shop in the Denver area that cares most about its customers’ well-being, piggy-backed off a Bike-to-Work celebration to reveal the details of its innovative Bike-Loaner Program.
The Bike-Loaner Program recently came to the attention of the 36 Commuting Solutions organization, which awarded Lake Arbor Auto a full, $500 grant in recognition of the program’s potential to help solve commuting issues and benefit the environment along the Rt. 36 corridor.
Upon learning of the grant, Lake Arbor Auto Owner Dana TePoel announced that he will establish a cash-reward system for employees who continue riding their bicycles to work throughout the year. The employee who logs the most miles by June 2013 will receive a $250 bonus. Second place receives $150, and third receives $100.
“It is no secret that a healthy workforce AND a healthy customer base have a huge effect on the overall well-being of a small business like ours,” TePoel said. “While we hope the employees and customers will have fun with these biking incentives, we hope even more fervently that the program and the awards will have a positive impact on their health. Of course, the reduction in carbon emissions is a side-benefit that we can’t ignore.”
Lake Arbor Auto recently purchased several bicycles, along with locks, helmets and even child carriers, and today began making them available to customers and employees – anyone who needs them – at no charge. No other auto repair shop in the northern metropolitan Denver area offers this kind of official bike loaner program for customers.
Lake Arbor Auto customers will use the bikes to get to and from their homes or workplaces (or gym or shops!) while their vehicles are in for repair or maintenance. Of course, Lake Arbor Auto continues to offer customers a free shuttle service (motorized!), along with a free vehicle-loaner program for customers whose cars will be in the shop for an extended period.
Lake Arbor Auto customers, friends and employees, including TePoel, kicked off the Bike-Loaner Program by assembling with their bikes at nearby Stratford Lake and riding the 4 ½ miles to work, led by Westminster Police Officer Paul Newton. After the procession, additional customers joined the celebration and enjoyed a free, healthy breakfast at the Lake Arbor Auto shop at 9146 Marshall Place.
