Lake Arbor Auto marks Mother’s Day again

Hope House mom receives vehicle in ‘recipe for success’

WESTMINSTER, Colo. (May 2, 2019) – For the third straight year, Lake Arbor Automotive & Truck has spearheaded the donation of an automobile to a deserving mother at Hope House of Colorado.

Lake Arbor Auto presented a low-mileage 1999 Chevrolet Lumina to Lexus Flanery in a ceremony at the Westminster, Colo.-based vehicle repair shop.

“We recognize that the teen moms at Hope House need help in establishing their self-sufficiency, and a dependable vehicle is a solid component of that self-sufficiency,” said Dana TePoel, owner of Lake Arbor Auto. “We see this kind of donation as a recipe for success when it’s in the hands of a responsible young woman.”

Last year’s “Mother’s Day car” went to Jochael Magalso, who put it to good use by obtaining a full-time job. The vehicle was instrumental to her ability to make the commute and transport her child to daycare.

Hope House in Arvada offers metro-Denver’s only residential and community programs for teen moms, where they can engage in free self-sufficiency programs including high school equivalency certifications, college-and-career support programs, and more.

The Lumina, with 75,000 miles, required new tires, brake work, and various other repairs and maintenance before Flanery could take possession. The work was donated by Lake Arbor Auto technician Joey Smith. Lake Arbor Auto also plans to provide a year’s worth of preventative maintenance service at no charge.

Lake Arbor Auto has an ongoing arrangement with Hope House in which the shop provides a budgeted amount of free repair and maintenance annually for autos that are owned by the Hope House residents.

“Reliable transportation is one of the biggest obstacles our teen moms face as they work toward selfsufficiency,” said Lisa Steven, founder and executive director of Hope House of Colorado. “The donation Lake Arbor Auto is making will dramatically change a teen mom’s life as she uses her car to travel to work, school, childcare and Hope House. We couldn’t do what we do without partners like Lake Arbor Auto!”
