For whatever reason, there has been an increase in the theft of catalytic converters in Colorado in recent months. If you have to park your car outside, there are a few things you can do to discourage the thieves:

• Get your vehicle identification number etched into the catalytic converter.
• Keep the area well illuminated.
• Keep your car within range of a doorbell camera.
• Talk to your state legislator about creating regulations requiring scrap metal dealers to verify the origin of the metal and establish sellers’ ID.

A loud roar under the car is a good indication that your catalytic converter might be missing. It gets louder as you step on the gas pedal.
