What should I know about owning a diesel vehicle?

Question:

Why do some people choose to buy a car or truck with a diesel engine?

Answer:

Diesel vehicles are quite popular, and according to the latest report in AutoTrader, some of the top diesel cars last year were the Audi 3, the BMW 3 Series, the Chevy Cruze, the Jeep Grand Cherokee and the Mercedes-Benz and trucks, so we have a special sense of pride in the work that we do on those vehicles.

Here are three basic things you should know about diesel engines:

  • Diesel fuel contains more energy than regular gasoline, and so diesel vehicles get better mileage.
  • Diesel engines have no spark plugs, and they usually last longer, with fewer major repairs.
  • When a diesel engine does need repair, those repairs tend to be a bit pricier.

One other thing to know about diesel vehicles – you can’t get them tested for emissions at the Colorado testing centers. Lake Arbor Auto is one of the few places in the north Denver area that you can get your diesel emissions tested.
